Sunday Funday
The sun is shining and it is the epitome of fall right now. Outside, it’s cool and damp with colorful leaves falling everywhere. Inside the house we have scented candles lit, football on, and freshly popped popcorn in a bowl on the coffee table. Our Sunday is being spent in the best way possible; together as a family. With busy schedules and Kyle’s demanding job, days like these are few and far between.
With Scarlett napping upstairs I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for us to spend some one on one time with Stella and introduce her to a new game. She was given Candy Land for Christmas last year from her Papa and Kay Kay and we had yet to break it out. Today was the day! She knows her colors and understands the importance of taking turns, so what’s better than the game of Candy Land?
When I told her we were going to play something new, she was jumping up and down with excitement. She was patient when listening to the directions and enjoyed choosing a colored player for each of us to use. We played the game three times and that little stinker won all THREE times! Fair and square. At one point Kyle picked up a card where he lost his turn and Stella yelled, “Daddy, you lose!” We all burst into laughter. It was great.
It is moments like this where I continue to be impressed by this little girl of mine. She picks up on things quickly and is always eager to learn. As a parent of young children it’s sometimes hard to picture what life will be like when they grow up. Conversations you have, time spent together, and each child’s likes and dislikes will continue to change throughout the years. It was right here, in this moment today, where I felt like I had a small glimpse of what the future holds for us. Family game nights and lazy Sundays where “just hanging out” is the only thing on the schedule. That is something I can totally look forward to.
Fall has always, and continues to be, one of my favorite times of the year. We will continue this FALL day when we eat a roast with carrots and potatoes at Sunday Night Dinner at Mimi and Pots’ house later.
Keeping it short and sweet today. Until next time….
XO
Sarah
