Holiday Treats

Holiday Treats

My daughter Stella and I bake on Sunday afternoons.  It’s a tradition we started about a year ago as a fun way to spend time together while my youngest daughter naps.  It is great because not only are we spending quality time together but Stella is learning to use her patience in the kitchen, measure ingredients, and problem solve when something doesn’t go our way.  She gets so excited to dump flour into a bowl or use the electric mixer.  Her favorite part is a close tie between sneaking a taste of the dough and washing the dishes once we’re done!

Whatever we bake is devoured by the rest of the family during Sunday night dinner at Mimi’s house.  If it’s someone’s birthday we take their favorite dessert into consideration.  We love looking through cookbooks or browsing Pinterest to find something to make.  I’ve even let her walk down the baking aisle in Kroger and let her creative imagination decide.

We’ve made things such as key lime pie, a flourless cake, chocolate chip cookies and a peach cobbler with fresh peaches from Kinman Farms.  The list goes on! Stella receives compliments on her yummy desserts with great pride.

Stella knows that Sundays are for baking and spending time with her family and I wouldn’t want it any other way.  The memories we’ve made during these baking sessions will last a lifetime.  Here is a super easy and fun idea for you to try with your little ones this holiday season:

*Reindeer Rice Krispies *

1 and ½ Tablespoons Coconut Oil

3 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal

½ Package of Marshmallows

Honey *for gluing everything on

Nose: Red M&M OR Red Skittle

Antlers: Pretzels (see picture)

Eyes: Brown M&Ms OR Candy Eyeballs

In a pot over medium low heat, add your coconut oil and melt.  Next, stir in your marshmallows until they’re melted.

  1. Add in your cereal and stir until it’s completely incorporated.

  2. Pour into a greased, round, pie plate and flatten evenly with your hand.

  3. Allow it to cool.

  4. Cut into eight even triangles.

  5. Place dollops of honey where you want the eyes, nose and antlers to be.

  6. Keep covered at room temperature and enjoy!

Make these with your kids.  Share with family, a neighbor, or make them for a holiday party.

XO
